Heartbreaking End: Baby’s Life Lost in Devastating Obuasi VIP Bus Accident

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded on Monday, October 14, when a VIP bus involved in a devastating accident on the Kumasi-Obuasi highway led to the recovery of a baby’s body from the wreckage. The accident, which occurred after the bus veered off the road and landed in a ditch, has now claimed fourteen lives in total. Staff from a towing service, who had been dispatched to remove the damaged bus, made the grim discovery of the infant’s body. Sadly, the identity of the baby’s parents remains unknown, even 24 hours after the accident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.

The crash has led to the deaths of fourteen people, including three minors, with thirteen of the victims pronounced dead at the scene. The Kumasi-Obuasi highway has become a site of deep sorrow as families struggle to come to terms with their losses. Among the eight people injured in the accident, six have already been treated and discharged from the Obuasi Government Hospital, while two others are still under medical care and showing signs of recovery. The hospital’s Administrator, Peace Mati, has confirmed that relatives of the victims have begun arriving at the hospital to identify the bodies of their loved ones.

Eyewitness reports from survivors of the crash suggest that the bus, which had been en route to Enchi with registration number ER 2445-11, was overloaded. It is alleged that the driver picked up additional passengers whose vehicle had broken down on the highway. This decision to overload the bus appears to have sparked a confrontation between frustrated passengers, which may have led the driver to lose focus. As tensions grew on the bus, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge into a ditch. The result was catastrophic, leaving many passengers dead or injured.

The tragedy has reignited concerns about road safety and overloading on public transport in Ghana. It serves as a painful reminder of the risks posed by unsafe driving practices, especially on major highways like Kumasi-Obuasi. Authorities are conducting a full investigation into the incident, hoping to uncover more details about what led to the crash. Meanwhile, families are left grieving the sudden loss of their loved ones, as the nation reflects on the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent future accidents like this one.
